Discord is a platform that thrives on its community. To maintain a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment, it’s important to address violations of the server rules effectively. If you encounter a user whose behavior disrupts the community, follow this guide to report the issue to the appropriate server team. Providing thorough, detailed information is crucial to ensure that the team can take the necessary action.
1. Include Links to Relevant Messages
When reporting a player, the most direct way to showcase evidence of a rule violation is by providing message links. Discord allows users to copy links to specific messages, which are invaluable for the server team to verify the reported behavior.
How to Copy a Message Link:
- Enable Developer Mode (if not already active):
- Go to User Settings > Advanced and toggle on Developer Mode.
- Copy the Link:
- Right-click on the offending message (or tap and hold on mobile) and select Copy Message Link.
- Paste the link into your report.
This step allows moderators to quickly access the specific message without having to search through chat logs.
2. Provide Date and Time of the Incident
Including the date and time of the incident is essential. Moderators often need to cross-reference logs and messages to investigate the reported behavior. Be as precise as possible, specifying both the date and the time, ideally including the time zone.
Example:
“The incident occurred on December 7th, 2024, at 14:35 UTC.”
3. Collect and Share User Information
To identify the individuals involved, include either the full Discord User Tag (e.g., Username534
) or their User ID. The User ID is particularly helpful, as it is unique and cannot be changed.
How to Get a User ID:
- Ensure Developer Mode is enabled (as described above).
- Right-click the user’s name (or tap and hold on mobile) and select Copy User ID.
- Paste the ID into your report.
If obtaining the User ID is not possible, the User Tag can suffice, but be sure to double-check its accuracy.
4. Provide Additional Evidence (if messages are no longer accessible)
If the offending messages have been deleted or are otherwise inaccessible, you can support your report with screenshots, screen recordings, or videos. These visual aids provide context and help moderators understand the situation.
Tips for Effective Evidence Collection:
- Screenshots:
- Ensure the screenshot captures the full message, including the timestamp and User Tag.
- Screen Recordings:
- Record the incident with clear focus on the relevant messages or actions.
- Narrate the context, if necessary, to make the video easier to understand.
5. Contextual Information
In addition to evidence, provide a brief description of the incident. Explain what happened, why it violated server rules, and how it affected you or the community. Context helps moderators understand the severity of the issue.
A perfect Example Report:
Offending User: User#1234 (User ID: 123456789012345678)
Message Link: <Message Link>
The user posted repeated offensive language targeting another member in the #general channel, which violates Rule 3 of the server guidelines.
How to Submit Your Report
Reports should be submitted through the appropriate #report channel on our server. You’ll find it pretty much on the top of the channel list.
Be patient after submitting your report. The server team will review the evidence and decide on the appropriate action. Please understand that we are not allowed to provide information on judgements.
Why Detailed Reports Matter
Thorough and clear reports save time and ensure that moderators can act quickly and fairly. Incomplete or vague reports may delay investigations or result in no action being taken.
By following these steps, you contribute to maintaining a positive and welcoming environment on The English Hub. Let’s work together to keep our community safe and enjoyable for everyone!
